The rookie out of Kentucky exploded for 37 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 assists to lead the Miami Heat to a 112-109 win over the Boston Celtics and a 3-1 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Coming off the bench, Herro was in fine form as he dropped a record-breaking 37 points, which is also his career-high. It is the most points scored by a rookie off the bench in a playoff game, beating Andrew Toney who dropped 35 back in 1981. It is also the most points by a rookie during a Conference Finals game.

In his debut playoff campaign, Herro has already amassed 214 points. Currently, he stands 2nd in all-time rankings for most points by a rookie off the bench in a single NBA playoff run. Spurs legend Manu Ginobili holds the record with 226 points during the 2002-03 season. So Herro just needs 13 more points to beat the Argentine.

Tyler Herro’s main NBA skill is his shooting stroke. He has perfect form with terrific balance both off the catch and the dribble.Herro has enough ball skills to be a secondary creator on offense. He won’t blow by defenders to get to the rim, but he can use pump fakes to attack and get into the teeth of the defense. From their, he can use his soft touch to hit floaters and make plays for others.

Herro is not an explosive athlete and struggles to get to the rim with a defender in front of him. When he does get there, he’s a very below-the-rim finisher. His extremely short wingspan relative to his height likely limits his potential here. His wingspan and reach also put a cap on his defensive upside. There’s also a question about who he can guard at the next level. He’s not quite quick enough to guard point guards nor is he long enough to guard wings.
